85 FOUL SHOTS! Need a drink?

If you wanted to get a early glimpse of the Elks Foul shooting contest you should have been in Warrensville Heights on Friday night. 2009,Guard Carl "Tay" Jones, a St. Joseph's (Pa.) recruit, scored 24 points for Garfield Heights, and backcourt partner Trey Lewis hit all (4) four of his 3-point shots to tally 18 points.
It was the Bulldogs' 6-6 sophomore center, Will Weeks, who made the most impact on the game, though. He scored 16 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, and helped Mario Hines and Fred Chatmon - both 6-9 - form a defensive wall around the basket.

Everybody got to the free throw line, and often. Garfield Heights struggled there, making just 25 of 50 foul shots. Shaker Heights (10-12), which was led by guard and Cleveland State recruit Anthony Wells' 26 points, was 21 of 35 at the line. The teams combined to shoot 59 free throws in the second half.

Bob Wonson, who is retiring as the Shaker Heights coach after leading the Raiders to 361 wins in 24 seasons, missed the game with an illness.

Garfield advances to the District-Semi's to take on Cleveland St. Ignatious, which beat Bedford tonight 62-60.
