Detroit Cass Tech hosted Detroit Douglas on Tuesday night and avenged an earlier loss with a 54-47 win. This win by the Technicians puts them in a serious chance to make the PSL playoffs for the first time in years.
Cass Tech has had plenty of talent over the last few years? Let's just say a pro and mid-major players over the last five years transfered. Two MAC players stayed and numerous others are in Division II or other levels of college basketball stayed.
But, they haven't made it in some time.
A new crop is on the rise this year and the game they played Tuesday night against Detroit Douglas is sure to be a battle next year as well. They split the bill this year in their Southeast Division battle and expect the battle of future Division I and II players to continue into next year.
6'7 Lanier Brown (pictured) led Cass Tech with 17 points, 6'2 Kem Bradshaw added 9, 6'6 Shannon Williams 9 points were solid in the post, and 6'6' Daniel Bellomy was solid defensively.
6'5 unsigned senior power forward Darrien Schaefer added 9 points.
For Douglas, a sophomore, 6'5 Dennis Hogan, led them in scoring with 12. 6'5 junior John Gaston added seven. 6'2 senior guard Nick Merchant led Douglas in scoring with 18 and has one of the most intriguing stories in MHSAA sports.
Both have chances of making the PSL playoffs and facing off again.
