On Friday night the Eagles of St. Edward's traveled to the East side of Cleveland to take on the Bengals of Cleveland Benedictine. In a game that was packed wall-to-wall(SOLD-OUT) had a feel that was of tournament-like proporiton, and every possession was played as if it was a NBA Championship. The night started off with a full tilt JV game that featured Winston Grays III of Benedictine hitting 7 three pointers along with freshman star in the making Desmond Ridenour lifting the Bengals over there cross-town foe in a reserve nail biter.
The Varsity game was just as intense from the tip as Ed's prevailed till the end. Coach Eric Flannery of St. Eds had total control of his team and showed all the pieces were in place to make the Bengals stumble into a offensive coma. Ed's slowed it down and grinded it out out on the offensive end with their custom flex offense. On Defense Ed's stymied Benedictine with their space eating 2-3 zone and aggressive on the ball defense which gave the Bengals fits when trying to create or get clean looks.
On Saturday night Ed's knocked off Toledo St. Johns which is a guard heavy, experienced laden team. Some critics thought this was going to be a down year, but this team is playing on full-tilt and looking to be another regional qualifier!
