Detroit Loyola Rallies in the Fourth

One half of the Catholic League's C-D division final is set as Loyola's 18-7 run was the difference Tuesday night against Madison Heights Bishop Foley.

The first quarter started off in the Ventures favor but an early four-point lead slowly dwindled over the next three-minutes as they turned the ball over three times in the last two minutes. The Bulldogs' 6'4 unsigned senior wing Jamar Ragland scored six of his game high eighteen in the last three minutes and the quarter ended, 17-11.

Ragland knocked down a three-pointer from the wing to start Loyola's second quarter scoring and their lead would grow as the first half ended, 29-19.

Loyola extended their lead to eleven after 5'8 senior guard Angelo Thurman was fouled on a made three from the wing. The four-point play wasn't completed but the Bulldogs had their biggest lead. The Ventures weren't rolling over as they were able to close the quarter on a 5-0 run capped by a three-pointer from 6'2 senior wing Antonio Ramirez. The quarter ended 36-30.

Bishop Foley's scoring success continued as they continued their 11-0 run to tie the score at 36. Ragland's scoring once again righted the Loyola ship as his go ahead bucket gave his team a lead they would never relinquish. Bishop Foley was held to five points in the last four-minutes of the game while the Bulldogs defense held strong. The 54-41 victory pits Loyola against Wednesday night's Royal Oak Shrine/Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard for the CD Championship at the University of Detroit's Calihan Hall this Sunday, February 28.

Ragland also grabbed fourteen rebounds and six were on the offensive glass. Ragland has an offer from Alcorn State and offers from schools closer to home might pull the trigger on this high-motor wing. Northwood was in the crowd.

5'9 senior guards Angelo Thurman (12 points) and D'angelo Tugwell (10 points) were key's offensivly and defensively for Loyola's head coach John Buscemi.

Bishop Foley also had seniors stepping up to the plate, 6'3 forward Brad Bochniak led the Ventures with 14 points and 6'2 guard Antonio Ramirez added 13.
