Detroit is rich in basketball history and the 2008-09 Public School League season has presented moments that will live with fans, players, and coaches forever. The P.S.L. also has honors awards for the top player and a the City Championship that will be decided at the University of Detroit's Calihan on Friday, February 20th..
The first award has been decided and goes to the best player by vote of coaches and the 2009 class presented plenty of choices.
Pershing's 6'9 Derrick Nix (Michigan State U.)
Cody's 5'9 point guard Demetrius Ford
Renaissance's 6'5 forward Daniel Sutherlin
Central's 6'3 guard DeAngelo Hailey
Renaissance's 6' point guard Delano Collins
Southeastern's 6' guard Kimani Boynton
Northwestern's 6'5 wing Asaad Robinson
Henry Ford's 5'9 point guard Demario Prince
Hailey was the winner as voted on by the coaches. He is the key to Central making the P.S.L. playoffs and his next game is at 7:30 vs. Detroit Renaissance in quartfinal action at Cass Tech. He can shoot the ball very well and is a player who can create his own shot. Hailey provides tough defense for Head Coach Ben Kelso and the Central squad.
