Romulus, MI.- Three courts as varsity teams hit the hardwood for scrimmages that lasted for four hours and just days before the opening of Michigan's 2009-'10 basketball season. The talent was abundant as Ann Arbor Pioneer, Detroit Central, Detroit Cooley, Detroit Southeastern, Flint Carman-Ainsworth, Lansing Eastern, Melvindale A B & T, Oak Park, Romulus, Saginaw Arthur Hill, Wayne Memorial, and Ypsilanti Willow Run battled eachother in front of Eastern Michigan University, Inside Prep Sports, The Detroit News, and the Free Press.
Many of the games were decided at the last minute and Detroit Central's 27-26 victory over Willow Run was the first. The majority of Central's scoring is going to come from 6'3 senior guard DeAngelo Hailey and that was evident early as he knocked down three of four jumper from deep. Willow Run's 6'1 senior guard Mark Cook is strong and has underrated court vision.
Detroit Southeastern's 6'5 guard Brandan Kearney '11, 6'7 forward Percy Gibson '11, and 6'1 point guard Anthony Fields '10 are in Ann Arbor watching the Michigan-Duke game.
Gibson also has an offer from Fordham. Fordham also offered Saginaw Arthur Hill's 5'6 point guard Maurice Cooper-Jones '10. Cooper-Jones reminded IPS that Eastern Michigan has also offered and informed IPS that UConn contacted him yesterday.
